FAQs by product area: projects, cues, recording, review & export, practice, and account sync

Projects

What does Lumivaro do?It helps you write audio description for your short videos, record narration, handle conflicts with dialogue, and export a new playable cut. The app does not auto-recognize pictures or certify accessibility quality.
How do I create a project? On Home tap New — pick a Photos video, shoot with Camera, or start blank and write first. You can also use Write first cue for a quick draft. The source is copied read-only into the app; your Photos original is unchanged.
What is a sample project? When the library is empty you can add a sample to learn the timeline, cues, protected ranges, and export flow. Delete it anytime; your own media is unaffected.
Can I start without a video?Yes. Create a blank project, write cues and timings, then attach or replace a source later in the workspace.
What is Continue on Home?It shows recent unfinished projects, preferably with a first-frame cover, so you can jump back into the workspace.
What statuses exist?Filter by Draft / Needs review / Ready to export. Draft is still editing, Needs review has open issues or conflicts, Ready to export is closer to a finished cut.
How do I find projects?Home supports search, pin, sort by recent / name / completion, and denser or looser cards. The top bar also shows project and cue counts.
What is in the workspace?Video preview, dual timelines (source time / composed time), cue list, protected ranges, progress for describe / protect / review, and diagnostic tips.
What do diagnostics do?They suggest next steps for empty projects, timing conflicts, missing takes, or unfinished review.
How do I duplicate or delete? The project menu can create a full copy (cues, takes, and ranges are renumbered). Delete clears the local index and related sandbox files only — shared or Photos copies stay.
What if I replace the source?Affected cues may be marked for re-check; the cover frame updates; preview key passages again before export.
Where is project data stored?Projects and cue text sync to your online workspace after sign-in. Source video may sync via signed upload (≤50MB; larger files are compressed). Narration take files and exports stay on device.

Cues & protected audio

How do I add a cue?Add a cue on the workspace timeline, write text, and set source time plus available duration. Empty text cannot be marked done.
Are there text templates?Yes — person, action, on-screen text, scene change, and more. The UI also hints at character count and suggested spoken length.
What is a protected range? You mark start/end for dialogue, music, or key effects. Overlaps with narration show a conflict; the app never decides how to fix it for you.
What if a cue is too long?Shorten and re-record, split into two cues, or freeze the frame to make room. Freeze extends composed duration; cues show both source and composed time.
Can I copy a cue?Yes. You can also split into two cues and record/review each separately.

Recording & preview

How do I record?Start recording in cue editing; the first time asks for Microphone. There is a 3-second countdown; takes are named automatically.
Multiple takes per cue?Yes. Save several takes, preview, select, rename, or delete; export uses the selected take.
Can I change preview speed?About 0.75×, 1×, and 1.25× so you can check whether the pace fits the gap.
No microphone permission? You can still save text description; open Microphone for Lumivaro in Settings when you need narration.

Review, export & backup

How does review work?In Review mark Pass / Revise, jump to the first unchecked item, play full or listen-only, and filter to conflicts only.
What is checked before export?Missing takes, unfinished review, remaining conflicts, and disk space — to reduce failed exports.
Does export change the source? No. It creates a new video with the narration mix and a UTF-8 transcript with dual timecodes. Source and past exports stay independent.
How do I share after export?Save to Photos or use the system share sheet. If Photos write fails, use Share.
Where are past exports? Each successful export leaves a record (time, duration, result). Compare versions without overwriting the last cut.
How do I back up?In Me → Data → Backup & Restore export a JSON package of project metadata and practice progress (not source video or recording files). Import shows name, cue count, and a summary before restore.
What is export readiness?Export readiness scores completeness, conflicts, review, takes, and source, saves a snapshot, and lets you freeze / compress / approve-all then re-score.

Practice & craft studio

Is practice paid? No. Original practice packs are free — preview, favorite, Favorites only, and repeat drills.
What are daily prompts?Practice shows rotating daily description prompt cards for short-line drills.
What is This week’s craft studio?Check in, write micro drills, and run phrase quizzes. Passed lines can fill a blank cue or append to a project.
Where do phrases live?Approved description lines can join the phrase bank for reuse and quizzes.

Device account & sync

How do I sign in?Finish onboarding and accept policies, or open Me → Device account. No phone or email required.
What syncs?Nickname, public avatar URL, project structure, cues, review, practice progress, and source-video public URLs. Narration takes, exports, and local backups stay on device.
Do custom avatars upload? When you save profile while signed in, album avatars use signed direct upload; business data keeps only the public URL.
Does sign-out delete projects? No. It clears credentials and stops auto-sync. Local and online workspaces remain.
How do I delete the account? On Device account: delete every online workspace for that identity, then clear device identity and local data. If the network fails, local data is kept for retry.
Sync failed?Check the network, then Me → Data → Save online workspace now. Local edit, record, and export still work if the service is down.
